Our Spiritual Directors

Pursuing Excellence in Spiritual Direction

Our Spiritual Directors are talented listeners. They know how to start the retreat experience with a personís unique experience of God. The Directors at Eastern Point know how to follow the Exercises closely and faithfully while finding the flexibility to meet individual needs. Our Directors know how to let God direct the retreat experience while asking supportive questions and offering guidance in prayer.

Our resident Directors are joined by guest Directors carefully chosen for their abilities to work thoughtfully with retreatants within the framework followed at Eastern Point. Because all Directors, resident and guest, are afforded the benefits of peer supervision, there is ongoing growth and learning for professionals dedicated to their calling and to the mission of Eastern Point.

Our Spiritual Directors also participate in continuing developmental programs at regional institutions, e.g., Boston College programs on the practice of hope and the programs offered by the Jesuit Collaborative. In turn, our staff provides support to the groups for supervision, training, workshops, and retreats in other locations.

We are pleased to present brief bios of our resident staff:

stanleyRichard J. Stanley, SJ

Richard Stanley was born and raised in western Massachusetts. He began college at Fairfield University in Connecticut, joined the Jesuits, and was ordained in 1974. Since then he has been on the staff of Eastern Point, a parish priest in Norwich, Connecticut, and a campus minister at Fairfield University. He divides his time between EPRH and Boston. Richard is an accomplished musician who lends his considerable talents to masses in the retreat house.
