Why Contribute to Eastern Point Retreat House?
There are a number of compelling reasons to support the work of Eastern Point Retreat House. For one, we adhere to the highest standards of practicing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. For another, we do so in a remarkable natural setting that deeply complements a spiritual retreat. For a third, we are committed to excellence in all we do, from spiritual direction, to a homelike atmosphere, to satisfying meals and beautiful walking paths that help free one to focus fully on the work of spiritual retreat.
Our budget calls for $1.3 million to serve some 1,600 retreatants annually to experience the Exercises actively and thoughtfully. Almost two-thirds of our budget is spent on salaries and benefits. About one-quarter goes toward maintenance and food costs. The remaining ten percent covers a wide array of necessary expenses to maintain a first-class operation.
While we do not fall short in stewarding the Ignatian legacy, we do fall short by about fifteen percent, or some $200,000 a year in meeting expenses. We turn to you in the spirit of shared stewardship to help us maintain reasonable charges for retreatants while pursuing excellence in spiritual direction with every person who joins us at Eastern Point.
A gift of $100.00 will go far to ensure the persistence of a valued spiritual practice in a place of great spiritual beauty. We ask that you consider this amount as you find a level of donation that works for you and your family. Whether you decide on more or less, we want you to know that we value every contribution to the work of Eastern Point. On our end, we pledge to steward the Exercises and your contributions with care and appreciation.
Special Gift Opportunities
From time to time, we highlight giving opportunities of significant benefit to this Retreat House.
In September, in response to Pope Francis’ call to be a church for the poor” we have made a new commitment to our scholarship fund to assist those who desire to spend time with God, but do not have the financial resources to be on retreat. It is a great joy for me, as the new director, to widen the doors and welcome all to this wonderful and sacred place.
While we make every effort to keep costs down, the price of a retreat is still sometimes out of reach for a religious or lay applicant. We have found over the years that a partial scholarship works for some of those who would join us and that for others we need to provide the full cost of the retreat (we do ask that those who receive scholarship provide their own transportation to the Retreat House). A donation of $700 will enable us to provide full scholarship funding for a seven- or eight-day retreat. Smaller donations designated for scholarship use will be most helpful in making the cost of a retreat more affordable. Both full and partial scholarship fundings helps us realize our goal of making our retreats more generally accessible to all who would benefit from them.
